Season 1 Episode 10: Creative Real Estate

Writer's Note:

The one unifying aspect of this economic crisis is that the desperation is hitting all classes. It is no longer just the one on the low end of the totem pole that is scrambling financially. As the crisis started, I heard many stories of people that couldn't figure out how to pay their rent or their mortgage and found their struggles stalling at the deaf ears of their unsympathetic landlords who in most cases did not need that rent, and in even more cases, were never particularly attentive and responsible landlords to begin with. But as time rolled on, and the once lucrative American real estate market fell in shambles, these same opportunistic landlords found themselves in the same position of their tenants. And well, I thought that was funny. Hence, this scene.

There are some definite advantages to being a late-comer to some parties. In my case, I had never heard of this series until I found myself seated next to the very talented creator of it in a Starbucks today. For those, who like me, are late in coming aboard, you might want to try my approach. I am not allowing myself to watch more than three episodes at a time. I have decided to watch each episode without reading the writer's notes and then watch each again after reading the notes. I am thoroughly enjoying watching the series thus far and am very impressed with not only the humor but also the sensitivity implied in each little vignette. It is heartening to see such talented people creating despite the economy. You have me hooked. I look forward to following your work.
